About The Exchange
The Exchange is operated by Offramp Tech LLC, a registered Veteran-Owned Small Business based in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Why The Exchange exists
I’m Josh Verhulst, founder of Offramp Tech. I spent the last 10 years inside the ed-tech recycling industry watching K-12 districts struggle with the disposition process and residual recapture. The traditional channels — single-bidder buybacks, opaque grading, ad-hoc freight — left value on the table at every step. Schools didn’t know what their inventory was actually worth. Refurbishers couldn’t find supply at the scale they needed.
I left to fix it. The Exchangeis a managed bid/ask marketplace that connects schools directly to refurbishment buyers — with clear grading, photo-verified sort, and a guaranteed per-piece floor. Schools see what their inventory is actually worth. Refurbishers source at fair market without hunting 800 districts. We sit in the middle as a managed-transaction layer — handling freight, payment, grading, and data destruction.
The unlock for schools: the same platform you sell your retired fleet into is also where you can buy graded refurbished devices — Chromebooks today, with MacBooks, iPads, and Windows laptops expanding through 2026 — for next year’s refresh at a fraction of new-device pricing, with the Hub standing behind every grade. One relationship, both sides of the trade.
We’re running a pilot through summer 2026 with a small group of districts, merchants, and leasing remarketers. If your district is cycling out laptops, tablets, or other ed-tech hardware this year, looking for refurbished devices for next year’s refresh, you’re a refurbisher looking for supply, or you’re a leasing-company remarketer liquidating off-lease IT, I’d love a 15-min call.
What we do
The Exchange is a managed B2B marketplace for IT asset disposition (ITAD). K-12 was our launch wedge — school districts sell retired laptops and tablets into the platform, and buy graded refurbished devices for their next refresh cycle. The same mechanics serve leasing remarketers liquidating off-lease commercial IT, government surplus, and higher-ed refresh. Verified refurbishment buyers purchase lots — graded by Offramp’s Approved Authenticator Network — for resale into the secondary market or other end-of-life pathways.
We operate two complementary mechanisms:
- Live order book.Bid/ask order book for graded individual SKUs — Chromebooks today, with MacBooks, iPads, and Windows laptops expanding through 2026. Buy Now lifts the lowest ask; Sell Now hits the highest bid. Anonymous, MOQ-tiered, photo-verified at the Hub.
- Off-lease packages. Lessors build SKU bundles from our catalog or custom-spec any device (make, model, CPU, RAM, storage). ITAD merchants bid sealed or live. Replaces the spreadsheet/email workflow leasing remarketers use today.
- Sort & Settle for raw lots.Schools sell ungraded inventory into a buyer’s standing per-grade price ladder with a guaranteed floor. Our hub sorts and photographs every grade pile, then settles automatically.
Why a managed marketplace
K-12 IT departments don’t have the time or motivation to find end-of-life buyers. Refurbishment buyers don’t want to chase 50-piece lots scattered across 800 districts. We sit in the middle: aggregate sellers, verify condition, route freight, generate NIST 800-88 data-destruction certificates, and release payments. Both sides stay anonymous to each other.
Status
We’re in invite-only pilot release. Real money flows (Stripe, payouts) and live carrier shipping (EasyPost) are being integrated over the coming weeks. Interested in joining the pilot? Email billing@offramptech.com.
